San Diego Business Journal: Abzena Completes Major Lab Expansion

In October we completed a a major microbiology lab expansion to support our quality control and stability testing capabilities at our Sorrento Valley, San Diego development and manufacturing site.

The construction of our new 900 square foot lab space was finished in October. It is located at our state-of-the-art biologic GMP manufacturing facility located on Lusk Boulevard in Sorrento Valley, San Diego. The lab has been designed as a standalone space to separate product testing from all other testing. This is better aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

In the San Diego Business Journal, Sean O’Brien, SVP and San Diego Site Head shared our exciting expansion news.

Construction on the new 900 square foot lab space was finished in October and is housed at Abzena’s biologic GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) manufacturing facility located on Lusk Boulevard in Sorrento Valley. It was designed as a standalone space to separate product testing from all other testing, which Abzena says better aligns with industry standards and regulatory requirements. According to the company, the expansion will help alleviate and address the market demand for quality testing driven by increased regulatory requirements.

O’Brien stated, “The demand mainly comes from the number of smaller virtual biotech companies that have limited in-house testing capabilities, therefore requiring them to outsource this need to analytical testing laboratories. With Abzena standing up our increased microbiological footprint, we are in hope that we can better serve our customers and the industry with our capabilities and deliver faster turnaround times for critical ‘decision-making’ data.”

The expansion will help alleviate and address market demand for quality testing driven by increasing regulatory requirements.
