Brett Verstak

Director, Cell Line Development

Brett Verstak leads Abzena’s cell line development team. With over 12 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical sector, he brings a wealth of managerial and scientific expertise. Brett has an extensive background as a cellular biologist and protein biochemist, with specialized knowledge in bioprocessing, stable cell line development, and the manufacturing of biologics, including antibodies, fragments, fusion proteins, and vaccines.

Additionally, Brett has significant experience as a technical project manager, leading project governance for multiple programs within Abzena’s global portfolio, ensuring successful project delivery to stakeholders. Prior to his tenure at Abzena, he completed six years of post-doctoral research in the Department of Biochemistry at Cambridge University, focusing on innate immunity and cellular responses to Toll-like receptors.

Brett holds a Ph.D. in Cellular Biology and Biochemistry from Monash Institute of Medical Research (Australia) and a B.App.Sc (Hons) in Biochemistry and Chemistry, from Swinburne/Monash University (Australia).
